Being ‘a great place to work’ is rooted in Sainsbury’s heritage and values. It also plays a crucial role in achieving our business goals. We rely on our 150,000 colleagues to deliver great service to our customers every single day.
We have always wanted to be ‘a great place to work’. It’s what has made us the great company we are today and it’s helping us to build the business for tomorrow. We are all about great food at fair prices and exceeding our customers’ expectations and the people who deliver this to our customers every day are the 150,000 colleagues who work in our stores and depots. They are in every sense the face of the company.
This means we have to find the best people and then treat them in the right way, so that not only will they want to stay but are inspired to do the best job they can for our customers. We do this by living up to our principles of equality, diversity and fairness, communicating regularly and listening genuinely. We also give everyone the chance to reach their full potential and recognise them when they go the extra mile.
We were proud to be awarded the 'People's Organisation' by the CBI in their 2009 Human Capital Awards. This award was in recognition of our broad ranging HR and people management excellence.
